About the Net Zero Government Operations Policy

The policy sets out 24 actions and will help agencies operate more efficiently, reduce their energy and maintenance costs, and contribute to improved environmental and health outcomes. It also includes broader sustainability measures, such as saving water and minimising waste.

Key actions of the policy mandate agencies to:

• have long-term net zero transition plans in place
• decarbonise buildings and fleets gradually
• preference products containing recycled content on an ‘if not, why not’ basis
• report on compliance each year.

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) will collate and publish agency data that shows how agencies are contributing towards NSW’s legislated emissions reduction targets under the Climate Change (Net Zero Future) Act 2023.
